what would cause a car to not turn over?
i have a 2003 mitsubishi eclipse. When i get in to start it up all the accessories and lights come on. when i turn the key nothing happens no noise and none of the lights on the dash dim. the only light that comes on is the battery light but it was a new battary in it ?
i had replaced the battary its 3 days old is there some way to test the starter out ?? and also the entire ignition was replaced about 6 mounth ago as you guys have started it sound like the starter might be the problem but i would hate to replace it just to find out that i was still good?
could be one of two things by how you described it:
1. alternator(had same issue)
2. starter(had same issue)
if its the alternator all you can do is replace it and hope the new one works.. i went through 4 before i found one that charged right. make sure its ensured it should be
if its the starter you could test it out by having someone tap on it with a hammer and someone else turn the ignition at the same time. but besides that its the same as the alternator. if you replace it it should be ensured for at least a year
i had to replace both so im guessing its what happens with these cars. first my alternator was bad when i got it then as i drove it for about a year the starter went out. alternator runs about 80-120$ refurb and like 280$ from the company. starter should be under 80 new. mine was like 60 i think. my dad also owns his own mechanic shop and knows people though.
all i could tell you to do to know for sure what the problem is is take it to a shop. they’ll test your alternator and tell you if its good and test your starter(normally have to order the part and switch it out) and tell you if it fixed the problem. my dads shop does inspections for free. so do alot around here goodluck
