The CR-Z gets 31 Miles per Gallon (city) and 37 MPG (highway). Drivers can use a Science Fiction-inspired 3-way switch that allows the choice between Normal, Sport, and Econ. Switching between modes not only alters the behavior of the gas/electric drivetrain but also impacts steering response and accessory power usage.
The CR-Z feels much faster than the 122hp figure would lead you to believe; this is because of the extra zip that the electric motor brings into the equation. Full power is instantly on tap with no engine lag regardless of vehicle speed making the acceleration of the CR-Z amazing. Shifting this car is a blast, too; the Sport Hybird offers the choice of a six-speed manual shifter or an automatic transmission with Ferrari style paddle shifters.
Standard equipment includes power windows with auto-up/down driver’s window, driver’s illuminated window switch, illuminated steering wheel-mounted MID and audio controls, three beverage holders, 12-volt power outlet, driver’s seat with manual height adjustment, rear cargo console, USB Audio Interface and backlit gauges. On the outside the CR-Z has P195/55/16 86V all-season tires, fin-type roof-mounted antenna, body-colored, heated folding power side mirrors, rear window wiper/washer and projector-beam halogen headlights
This vehicle is very attractively priced. The base CR-Z is only at $19,200 and the CR-Z EX model has an MSRP at $20,760. Even with Leather-Wrapped Steering Wheel and Shift Knob, HID Headlights, and the onboard navigation system a fully-pimped CR-Z won’t cost more than $25,000. Plus CR-Z owners save money at the gas pump and are eligible for a tax credit.
The original Honda Insight 2-seat coupe, introduced in late 1999, broke new ground as the first gasoline-electric hybrid car sold in America. Aerodynamic and innovative, the Insight redefined the way the industry thought about fuel-efficient vehicles. The centerpiece of this groundbreaking car was the compact and efficient Integrated Motor Assist hybrid powertrain which served as a test bed for the next generation IMA Technology in the CR-Z.
