Top 3 Accessories That Complement Fire Extinguishers Well
To most, fire extinguishers are that actual embodiment of firefighting. Why? Well simply because they are among the tools/ equipment that are readily available and visible everywhere, making them easy to grab anytime an alarm is sounded off.
But while extinguishers seem to have the limelight as far as firefighting is concerned, they still need care and some accessories that keep them in good condition when they are not in need. What are those accessories?
Here are some of them.
1. Fire extinguisher cabinets
In a way, these cabinets have dual purpose. One, they are meant to mount/ display the extinguisher at an eye level, enabling them to be seen easily. And two, they are meant to safe keep the extinguisher and its other accessories when they are not in use.
Note that safekeeping here does not only mean protecting them from deterioration caused by natural elements such as humid temperatures and moisture but the locks also keep them safe from people who are either curious or naughty enough to tamper or seal them. And their purpose remains the same regardless of their size and make of their material.
Lastly, keep in mind that not all extinguishers are made to be enclosed in these cabinets. An automatic fire extinguisher for example are meant to mounted directly on walls as they are programmed to get set off on their own if they detect a need to.
2. Extinguisher covers
This may be your alternative if you are a little short of budget. They may look a little frail but they are enough to keep small fingers away from your firefighting equipment.
The covers are made of clear and waterproof material colored usually in red, making the extinguishers easily stand out against a blank wall. The clear plastic also serves a purpose as they enable a marshal to see and read the signs on the extinguisher without actually opening them.
3. Wall brackets/ mounts
These go perfectly with extinguishers that come with brackets that are mounted on their back. If you also own one of the automatic extinguishers, then these simple but strong hooks can keep them in place.
These hooks vary in sizes. The smaller ones can easily carry 2 kilogram extinguishers while the larger ones can hold up extinguishers as heavy as 6 kilograms or above. As such it is important to buy the ones that are suitable for your equipment because the last thing that you would want is to have your brackets collapse on you.
Also, if you are someone who feels safe with the presence of a fire extinguisher in your car whenever you travel, then, you should invest in some transport brackets. These brackets can hold extinguisher cans and keep them from moving all around your trunk while you are going through rough roads.
In terms of design, most of them are made with adjustable durable mesh and clasps that can easily be released when there is a need for you to retrieve your extinguisher.
