Car Amplifier- Can you hook up an amp to the 12v accessory socket?
Ok, so I have an SUV in the back and would like to get a small box with a 12″subwoofer in it, powered with an amp. In the back of the suv where this box is going, there’s a 12v accessory socket next to where I’m going to put the subwoofer. I will be able to disconnect the subwoofer in the back when I need the room, rather than trying to have it custom fit somewhere. So instead of running 2 wires all the way down to the front, and through the firewall, and to the battery, can I use the 12v accessory socket and wire the amp an adapter?
Those accessory sockets are meant for phone chargers and such and only capable of around 5 amps. An amp of any decent size would instantly blow the fuse.
