Moving out what is considered my own stuff?
I’m not taking any furniture or car. But I am taking my clothes, accessories, books, makeup, shoes, paperwork, storage boxes, and electronics. My laptop computer I received as a gift so legally I own that as well as the Mp3 player and printer that came as part of the package. Also there’s no proof of receipts for the clothes or any of the other items. I bought most of them, mom bought some of the others, but there’s no proof either way. Legally, this stuff can’t be taken away am I right? Thank you for the help.

Generally, you are permitted to take your personal items that cannot be reasonably used by anyone else in the home. Make-up and other toiletries are always considered yours. Clothes are usually considered to be yours. Personal papers are yours. (Your birth certificate belongs to your mother.) Electronics will usually have to stay in the home UNLESS they were purchased by someone who does not live in the home as a gift to you (and that person is willing to support your claim to the items).
Who gave you the laptop? If it was your mother, then you probably would not be entitled to take that. (The argument would be that she purchased the items for your use while you are in the house.) If another family member (who doesn’t living in the home) gave you the gift then it is usually assumed
The clothes are a tricky issue. It doesn’t matter that you purchased the items if you bought them before you turned 18. The theory behind this is that you wouldn’t have had the funds to buy anything if your mother hadn’t been providing you with shelter, food, medical care, etc. Some jurisdictions will find that the clothing is purchased for the child while the child is living in the parent’s home.
Police officers will generally advise you that disputes over property ownership are a civil matter.
