changing oil questions?
I’m going to change my car’s oil. I want to make sure I do it right. So I have a few questions:
1. Do I have to jack the car up or use ramps?
-I don’t have anything besides the jack in the car but lift all 4 wheels.
2. Do I need oil flush?
-If it is just an accessory then I won’t buy it, but it if it absolutely necessary then I’ll buy it.

But I already spent a lot of money on the tools, funnel cup, oil container, filter, and oil. I don’t know if it is worth it to buy a ramp and flush.
You will need jack stands or ramps. Jack stands are much smaller and easier to store and I prefer them. Don’t ever use just the jack to work under a vehicle.
I wouldn’t buy the flush. Not necessary. I have changed my oil/filter all my adult life and never used that crap.
Put car on flat ground. Engine should have been ran enough to warm up the oil. Not hot but warm. Put in Park, chock rear wheels and set the parking brake, jack up, put jack stands under and lower jack. Makes sure stands are on the frame other wise they will just bust thru the floor. Make sure the stands are rated weight wise for your vehicle. Loosen oil drain pan bolt, place oil container under it, now remove bolt with hand and hold onto it so it doesn’t fall into the old oil. Some bolts have a nylon washer so look for that when you get it loose and make sure it doesn’t fall into the container. Let it drain till empty. Slide container over to be underneath the filter. You will more than likely need an oil filter wrench to get it off unless you can get both hands on it to unscrew it. Remove it. It will be full of oil so it’s going to start running out of it. Now when you get it off make sure you check to see that the big round rubber washer is on it. If not, it will be stuck on the engine and you MUST remove it. Take a clean rag and wipe the area on the engine where the filter came off to make sure it is clean. Rub a coat of the new oil on the washer on the new filter then put it on. After the base of the filter contacts the engine block, tighten 3/4 to one full turn or as the directions state. Replace the drain bolt and torque it to the proper tightness. If no torque wrench, which I suspect, then just tighten it fairly tight. Enough to know it won’t come loose and leak. Move all the stuff out from under the car and lower. Do you know how many quarts it takes? Hope so. Put in one quart less than it takes. That is if it takes 4 quarts, put in 3. After adding oil, start it up and let it run for about 1 minute and keep looking under the car for any leaks. Shut off car, let sit about 5 minutes and check the dip stick. Then add oil from there to bring to right level. The reason I say don’t put all the oil in at once is because some vehicles say they take 4 but with a number of cars I have had over the years they would not take all of it without being overfilled. Probably because of being jacked up on an angle and all the oil couldn’t drain out completely. Easier to add than to drain. Check for oil leakage for the next couple of days by looking under the car and checking the level.
