Reviewing The Cars Game For Wii
Video games that are based on child-themed movies don’t usually cause much of a stir from the hardcore gamer community, but Cars, from Pixar, was a better movie than most. With Rainbow Studios at the developmental forefront, the Cars game for the Wii console is actually a wonderful software title. The Wii controller follows the pace set by the Cars series on other platforms, but is sometimes held back a bit by the very technology that is supposed to enhance and define its features; motion control.
Circuits range from informal street contests to oval-track challenges. Either way, with a little fine tuning of your skills, you can be the speediest car on the field. You’ll be weaving through traffic to finish in first place in no time. Using the Wii controller for the cars game is more intuitive than in other similar racing games, though the main reason behind that is because it sacrifices so much speed. The action in this game is still thrilling enough that the loss of speed won’t be too much of a bother. You also get the ability to jump your car by popping up the remote, and that’s a really nice touch they’ve added.
Multiplayer mode has only decent game play; it’s pretty average among racing games. It’s true that without a story tying the concepts together and an open world to blow the doors off, race courses just start to blend together over time. A few more creative matches that take advantage of the bigger worlds would have been nice for the Wii format.
Though it’s a tad bit more tricky to steer and control the action with the Wii remote, the Wii Cars game is still a fun little racing game for those it is marketed towards; younger gamers. The graphics are really wonderful and there are more than a few laughs to be had at the funny one-liners and silly jokes sprinkled throughout the game.
