How Boy Racers Are Driving The Car Accessory Industry
In pretty much any town centre in the UK you will probably find a group of boy racers driving up and down the town’s promenade in brightly coloured hatchbacks. Noisily buzzing around with loud exhausts and booming bass speakers. The numbers of boy racers on the roads is on the up; in fact the car modifications and accessories industry is now worth close to £350m a year.
In fact it’s unfair to paint all these young men in the same colour. Most have spent so much modifying their car that they drive around at a very sensible pace, you would too if you’d spent literally thousands of pounds on work to your car. The pride and joy of a boy racer is usually a ‘pimped out’ Ford Fiesta, Renault Clio, Peugeot 106s or Nissan Micra. The £350 million consists of various car accessories from stereo systems to car mats. That bright paintwork of these cars is also included in the figure, these blinding colours can give the impression that a Vauxhall Nova has just been tangoed or you’ve just seen an Oompa Loompa going 80mph down the dual carriageway.
The thing is it seems as if it’s just men and teenagers who are into ‘maxing out’ their car. Women seem not to have the slightest bit of interest. However there has been an increase of the number of women entering the automotive mechanics industry; so perhaps we are in for change in trend. However middle aged men are one of the biggest beneficiaries of the car accessory industry, picking up items such as a sat navs, a vehicle tracking system, blue tooth car kits, and parking sensors. They are just as keen as the youngster but in more of a kind of a granddad sort of way. However so rapidly is the industry increasing, it wouldn’t surprise me if old age pensioners start putting alloys on their mobility scooters. See what happens shall we.
